Jacquie Ang spots four subverted classics that take you through this pandemic and beyond in better times.
Blush hour
There’s a rainbow-worthy abundance of colours to brighten up your social gatherings, but one colour stands out. Is it a manifestation of designers’ wish to see people glowing in the pink of health? But the pretty hue is also a strong influence in punk – an empowering message in the battle against Covid-19.
Shape shifter
Volume was big in Autumn/Winter 2020, and this stealthy trick to disguise extra pounds is something we’re not ready to let go of yet. The exaggerated proportions create interesting shapes that are striking for Zoom meetings, or make dressing up for trips outside extra special.
Jacket required
If we need extra polish for a presentation or just to get into the work zone, this season serves up suits in a myriad of styles. Look smart with tailored pants, or channel dandy- chic with striking colours or preppy plaid.
Dream weaver
In a time that is still filled with uncertainty, the protective and comforting qualities of knits are something we can all cosy up to. Handcrafted knits are a step up from sweats, and there is a newfound appreciation of their artisanal value.
