Discover the world of Officine Panerai and delve into its multilayered past with its new exhibition, History and Legend. By Lydianne Yap
You may have heard or read stories about the rich heritage of Florentine watchmaker Officine Panerai, but have you seen it up close? In its latest exhibition, titled History and Legend, the watchmaker gives aficionados the opportunity to experience its storied past first hand.
Located at ION Orchard — where the only Panerai boutique in Singapore is located — the exposition will take visitors back in time and allow them to discover the design origins of Panerai dating back to the 1940s and 1950s. In reference to its roots as the former supplier of watches and precision instruments to the Royal Italian Navy, the showcase is artfully built around a full-sized prototype of a slow-speed torpedo (a human torpedo, also known as Siluro a Lenta Corsa) spanning 7.5m by 0.53m.
Besides presenting timepieces that are representative of Panerai across different eras, the event also offers guests the chance to discover the brand and its unique blend of authentic Italian design elements and fine Swiss watchmaking. A display that demonstrates the functions of some of the manufacture’s more sophisticated pieces, such as those with long power reserve, high complications, chronograph and GMT capabilities, will also be put up at the exhibition.
Officine Panerai’s History and Legend exhibition is located at ION Orchard Level 1 and will be open from 26 August to 6 September from 11:00am to 9:00pm daily.
Guided tours take place between 3:00pm to 3:30pm and 5:00pm to 5:30pm daily. Register by emailing the Panerai boutique at ion.singapore@panerai.com
