“A Japan in dialogue with the Italian renaissance” — this is the universe Valentino‘s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli has created. Along with the maison, he has reimagined the Ginza Six store as the union between ancient Japanese craftsmanship and Valentino’s longstanding legacy, and debuted a slew of new launches following the history-making co-ed pre-Fall fashion show in Tokyo. Notably for Singapore shoppers is Valentino TKY: A capsule collection that interprets the brand’s identity through a contemporary Japanese lens.
Valentino’s traditional animal motifs — derived from the late Sixties’ Haute Couture collections — of the butterfly, dragon, panther, tiger and snake are given manga makeovers with their own peculiar personalities, style and super power. These eclectic motifs take centre stage in a unisex capsule collection that merges street style and couture.
The motifs feature heavily on white cotton t-shirts, white cotton hoodie sweatshirts, black nylon windbreakers, bomber jackets and popeline shirts. For those looking to make a statement, Valentino’s signature rockstud spike bags reworked in the manga characters’ colours of pink, black, red and two shades of green, with bold embroideries of the motifs will definitely level up your style cred.
There are also plenty of accessories to choose from, such as the iconic Open Valentino Garavani sneakers with the words ‘VLTN TKY’ and the manga personality printed on the heel, canvas bags, black cotton baseball caps, iPhone cases and leather badge holders.
Elsewhere in the capsule collection are muted basics: Black cotton t-shirts, sweatshirts and leather phone cases emblazoned with the words ‘VLTN TKY’ in white, and ‘Ginza Tokyo Japan’ in red.
