What if you could enjoy all your favourite parts of a hotel stay within the day?
Sometimes, all we need is a quick break from the routine of everyday life, without the commitment of an overnight stay. Whether that is lounging by the pool with a cocktail in hand, unwinding at the spa or simply sinking into a nest of fluffy pillows in the room, DayAway helps you find your ideal daycation at some of Singapore’s finest hotels. Great for a short escape and change of scenery, the online platform allows users to discover, browse and book exclusively curated hotel experiences by the day.
The easy-to-use platform is the brainchild of marketing and branding expert Martha Waslen, who started her career at Ralph Lauren’s headquarters in New York and came to Singapore in 2011 to support the succesful launch of Luxola, which was later aquired by the LVMH-owned Sephora.
“Over the last year, my family often walked the grounds of our favourite hotels in Singapore as a diversion and I noticed all these beautiful pools, gyms, restaurants and bars were empty,” says the mother-of-two. It sparked an idea in the 37-year-old to launch DayAway as a solution to connect communities desperate for space outside their homes with underutilised ancillary spaces at hotels looking to generate new revenue streams.
“We actually don’t think of ourselves just as a booking platform, but a fully integrated inventory management and marketing solution that is designing an entirely new category in hospitality,” says Walsen. “Unlike booking platforms in the market, DayAway is establishing itself as a true, long-term partner to hotels by operating on a SaaS (Software as a service) model, providing meaningful, scalable solutions to our partners that will allow them to optimise various revenue channels over time while simultaneously generating meaningful brand engagement and ‘stickiness’ with a new demographic of guests.”
Currently, DayAway’s partner hotels include top brands like Raffles Hotel, Fairmont Singapore, The Fullerton Hotels, Andaz Singapore, Pan Pacific Hotel Group, The Capitol Kempinski Hotel, The Vagabond Club, and Duxton Reserve, with more to be announced soon.
Walsen works closely with the hotels to determine which spaces are underutilised at specific times of day to curate packages that generate engagement and maximise revenue, while providing guests with opportunities to relax, recharge and reconnect.
“The Sunrise Spa and Swim at Raffles Hotel is a great example of how we curate experiences,” she explains. “We understood that the Raffles Spa was mostly quiet between 10.00am -12.00pm so we partnered with them to create the DayAway Sunrise Spa and Swim experience, which includes a 60-minute treatment at the Raffles Spa followed by a 2-hour booking at the rooftop pool, an experience that is only bookable via mydayaway.sg.”
This DayAway Sunrise Spa and Swim at Raffles Hotel has been the bestselling package on the DayAway platform so far, especially among couples and groups looking for a relaxing escape. Walsen adds that many of these guests have also been making repeat bookings.
Another popular choice is the Afternoon Tea by the Bay at Fullerton Bay Hotel, which we experienced. The package includes an lovely three-tier afternoon tea for two, including two cocktails, served in the comfort of a Bay View Room or Theme Suite overlooking the stunning Marina Bay skyline.
We were welcomed to our luxuriously spacious Theme Suite by the extremely hospitable team, who took the time to share fun facts and historal details about the hotel with us and made us feel well taken care of within our short time there.
A bottle of chilled Champagne awaited us in the room, which we later enjoyed on the balcony while watching the sunset. This was not before we had an hour of serenity at the rooftop pool, where we were the only guests and had our pick of the prime jacuzzi facing the bay and incredible cityscape.
Our DayAway at Fullerton Bay Hotel lasted all of 6 hours but the wonderful change of environment, memorable hospitality and overall enjoyable experience was enough for us to feel recharged and ready to earn our next one.
