Event photo gallery: A private viewing of Phillips Auction watches with Prestige Online

For luxury watch collectors, turning to a trusted auction house is one of the best ways to land a coveted timepiece that has been off the market; it’s the destination for the highly sought-after, the rare, and the utterly original. Phillips in association with Bacs & Russo is one of the few auction houses ruling the roost.

Ahead of the Phillips & Blackbird: SPORTS auction happening at Hong Kong’s JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong on 27 May 2019, Prestige Online worked with the auction house for an exclusive preview for our society friends. On 27 April 2019, guests gathered with Head of Watches Thomas Perazzi and other specialists to view the timepieces slated to go under the hammer at the upcoming Hong Kong Spring Auctions.

The preview took place in the luxurious suite of The Ritz-Carlton on a Saturday afternoon.

Watches on display included timepieces by Patek Philippe, Omega, IWC, and Rolex.

As collectors browsed the ware on display, in-house watch specialists from Phillips delivered insights on the timepieces’ history, value, and other finer details.

The collectors’ favourite at the preview was the blockbuster Lot 958: The Rolex Ref. 6239. The first model of the ‘Chronograph’ series, its most eye-catching feature is its two-tone stepped dial design, fondly referred to as “Paul Newman”. The actor became the king of the watch world when his 1968 Rolex Daytona sold for $15.5 million, making it the most expensive wristwatch ever sold.

Yet another head-turner for viewing that day was Lot 1000: The extremely rare A. Lange & Söhne Ref. 704.048F, pictured in the centre above. The 10th of the 20 limited-edition pieces features a platinum tourbillon wristwatch with black enamel dial, date, and a hacking mechanism with guarantee and fitted presentation box.
