Eleven restaurants fought their way into the second edition of Michelin Guide Singapore and one establishment was bumped up a grade, while two well-known names were omitted during the ceremony held last night at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore that yielded pleasant surprises but came up a tad short on eyebrow-raising thrills or shockers.
Waku Ghin moved up to join Restaurant André, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Les Amis, Odette, Shisen Hanten and Shoukouwa in the two-stars category. Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle and Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle retained their single stars but saw none of their hawker peers replicate their success.
Restaurants making their one-star debut include Braci, Cheek by Jowl, Chef Kang’s, Garibaldi, Iggy’s, Imperial Treasure Fine Teochew Cuisine, Labyrinth, Meta, Saint Pierre, Summer Palace and Whitegrass. Forest and Terra, both awarded one star in last year’s inaugural edition of the guide, didn’t make it back for seconds.
The only three-star restaurant was Joël Robuchon at Resorts World Sentosa, the same as last year, and the announcement was so inconspicuous that it seemed to have ended before we noticed, having segued seamlessly from the unveiling of the two-star restaurants.
The other establishments that retained their one stars are Alma, Béni, Candlenut, Corner House, Crystal Jade Golden Palace, Cut, Lei Garden, Osia, Putien (Kitchener Road), Rhubarb, Shinji (both Bras Basah Road and Tanglin Road), Summer Pavilion, Sushi Ichi, The Kitchen at Bacchanalia and The Song of India.
