Two-Michelin-starred restaurant Waku Ghin will be serving up its last service on the 26 June 2019, a day after the upcoming World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019 awards ceremony.
After more than a decade of operations at Marina Bay Sands, the fine-dining concept by celebrity chef Tetsuya Wakuda is set to undergo ‘extensive renovations’. The news was released together with a media announcement on a four-hands collaboration lunch between Wakuda and renowned Spanish chef Jose Andres, to be held at Waku Ghin on 23 June 2019.

No dates have been released on the re-opening though it is rumoured that after renovations, the restaurant may be going a slightly more casual route. Should that be true, the development would follow the current wave of fine-dining establishments evolving into wallet-friendly concepts. After all, Waku Ghin is one of Singapore’s most expensive restaurants though it has in recent times, dabbled with casual settings with the cocktail-forward Bar at Waku Ghin and dessert cafe Patisserie Platine.
Since its debut in 2010, Waku Ghin has gained renown for its 10-course Japanese-European degustation menu. The restaurant works mainly with seasonal produce from Australia, prepared with French and Japanese techniques. Waku Ghin has also managed to clinch two Michelin stars and was recently placed at the 40th place on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.
In the meantime, fans of Waku Ghin are encouraged to make reservations for drinks, lunch and dinner before the restaurant closes up on 26 June 2019.
