Back

We’re now hitting the mid-year milestone, yet the bar scene in Singapore shows no signs of slowing down — the true mark of a cocktail capital. This month’s selection of new bars sees the return of the storied Alkaff Mansion, as well as a laid-back tiki bar.

Txa Pintxo Bar

One of Alkaff Mansion’s key F&B outlets is Txa Pintxo Bar. The name Txais derived from the Basque language and is pronounced as “cha”. Pintxo, pronounced “pinc-cho” refers to small plates, much like Spanish tapas, but with a toothpick pierced down the middle. Touted as loud and authentic, the bar’s pintxos are made with produce sourced from Basque regions.
A good pintxo must be accompanied with a good tipple, and that’s exactly what you’ll have here, with the bar’s array of Spanish beers, wines, and ciders. Cocktails are made with Spanish wines, and concocted to complement the flavours of the pintxos.

6 Grey Bar & Gin

Yet another option has opened for lovers of a solid gin and tonic. 6 Grey Bar & Gin has launched in Jiak Chuan Road, and it has fast become a go-to spot to, as the bar puts it, “chill on a Monday, party on a Friday and everything gin-between”.

While you’ll find a wide variety of the spirit here (we’re talking 52 types), its in-house gin, called Blood of the Enemy, is the one you must try. Also highly recommended is the delicately fragrant French Earl Grey Gin, that pairs best with Folkington’s Perfectly Light Tonic, which turns the spirit from a crystal blue to a mesmerising magenta.

Taki Taki

It may share the same name as the breakout reggaeton hit, but Taki Taki (meaning cheers in Tahitian) is instead a tiki bar with a focus on rum. Doors open at 4pm for easy sundowners, but as the sun sets, the volume goes up. Expect raucous weekend parties befitting its brightly painted murals. Information on the bar is currently scant, as it’s only just opened. Watch this space for more updates.
