New York’s Eleven Madison Park has clinched the top spot on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, in results announced today in Melbourne, the first time the contemporary American establishment earned the honour. It replaced last year’s winner, Modena, Italy’s Osteria Francescana, which dropped a spot to become first runner-up but remains Europe’s best.
Following February’s announcement of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, establishments from Asia made a strong showing, with seven appearing on the global list: Bangkok’s Gaggan, named The Best Restaurant in Asia, was placed at No. 7 after climbing 16 spots, and Singapore’s only representative, Restaurant André, rose 18 places to take No. 14. Tokyo’s Narisawa (No. 18) and Den (No. 45), Hong Kong’s Amber (No. 24), Bangkok’s Nahm (No. 28), and Shanghai’s Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet (No. 41) made up the rest of the region’s contingent.
