When one talks about The Macallan, one talks about one of the most prominent whisky brands in the world. Renowned for the finest craftsmanship, The Macallan has time and time again proven itself in terms of producing only the finest whisky, striking that perfect balance between tradition and innovation. The latest entry in the Edition Series has yet again reaffirmed its pedigree – the Edition No.4.
While the Edition No.1 and Edition No.2 highlighted to consumers the significance of the casks on the flavours of the whisky and the Edition No.3 educated consumers on aromas, the Edition No.4 brings an insight into the structure of the whisky, giving consumers a literal taste of how The Macallan distillery is constructed and the great lengths in which The Macallan goes to in creating single malts.
A continuation of the illustrious story that is The Macallan’s impeccable oak casks and its abilities to truly unlock the flavour of whisky, the Edition No.4 is another product of the famed oak casks utilised by The Macallan. Staying true to The Macallan sherry-seasoned oak casks maturation, each cask is meticulously handpicked, contributing to the quality, colours and flavours that make up The Macallan.
Inspired by the new Macallan distillery, the European oak sherry-seasoned casks from Tevasa themselves, which initially store the Edition No.4, provide the foundation of this limited-edition whisky, delivering rich notes of dried fruits and a layer of wood spices as well as root ginger.
The whisky is then formed in European oak sherry-seasoned casks from Jose y Miguel Martin and Diego Martin Rosado, further enhancing its dried fruit notes while also bringing along notes of dates and figs. The structure of the Edition No.4 is then balanced in American oak sherry-seasoned casks from Vasyma, imparting vanilla, toffees and butterscotch, with the final product then perfected through refill sherry-seasoned oak casks, where the flavours are completed with the lively character of citrus fruits. Truly a complex process, but one that brings with it a masterpiece.
