Restaurant André has been named the second-best restaurant in the region during the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants award ceremony, making it the top establishment in Singapore, while modern French fine-dining restaurant Odette made a strong debut at ninth place.
The 2017 results were announced in Bangkok late last night. The top spot went to Gaggan for a third consecutive year.
Restaurant André climbs up a spot from its third place position last year, and the last time it was named the best in Singapore was 2013. Odette earned the Highest New Entry of the year during the night’s proceedings.
Burnt Ends, known for its wood fire cooking, and RAW Taipei — both co-owned by Andre Chiang — had a strong showing last night, clinching 10th and 24th positions, respectively. With that result, RAW Taipei is now the best restaurant in Taiwan for the first time. Burnt Ends’ Dave Pynt also snagged the Chefs’ Choice Award for his “mastery of various cooking techniques [that have] earned him the respect of his regional peers.”
Just nine Singapore-based restaurants earned spots on the list, the others being Les Amis (No. 16), Waku Ghin (No. 20), Corner House (No. 23), Tippling Club (No. 27), Jaan (No. 42), and Shinji by Kanesaka (No. 44)
The Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list is generated based upon the votes of The Diners Club Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, which comprises chefs, restaurateurs, journalists, gourmands and opinion leaders from the F&B industry in Asia.
