Luxury brands have been quick to join the makeup fray. Following hot on the heels of Gucci and, most recently, Hermès, Carolina Herrera has also launched a beauty line. But here’s how it sets itself apart: Carolina Herrera makeup also doubles up as jewellery.
Made to be worn on-the-go, the range of “ready-to-wear” products deliver the colour we so desperately need in such disheartening times. Proudly loud and vivaciously colourful, the line is customisable and refillable, with complementary accessories that can elevate your style quotient. The beetle takes centrestage as an accessory — a tribute to the designer’s daughter. Carolina Herrera dubbed her daughter Cole, short for coleoptero, which means “beetle” in Spanish.
The lipstick collection is the biggest range among all the makeup products, and comes in three different finishes. The matte line delivers high pigment in a smooth, powdery finish with a non-drying texture; satin offers long-lasting moisture, while sheer coats the lips in a soft and thin sheen. That’s not all. These lipsticks can be customised by choosing your own lipstick cap — attach it to a signature bangle (a ring engraved with the Carolina Herrera label) and pair it with a jasmine charm, beetle talisman, or colourful tassle.
Also included in this makeup line is the compact. Pick from four printed cases — each adorned in glamorous gold — with each case housing a finely milled, glow-enhancing powder, a radiance-boosting highlighter, or a translucent mattifying powder. The cases are also customisable, and can be decorated with letter charms and the trademark beetle ring. To complement the lip and face products, gold-stemmed lip and powder brushes are also sold separately.
The Carolina Herrera makeup line first debuted on the Fall/Winter 2020 runway in New York on 10 February. The products have yet to hit the Carolina Herrera stores, and mainstream beauty shelves in Singapore, so watch this space for more updates.
