Beauty and dining will brush against each other in the heart of Orchard Road this July. After the prodigious opening of a joint 300-sq-m cafe-retail space along the Champs-Élysées by beauty brand L’Occitane en Provence and well-known “Picasso of Pâtisserie” Pierre Hermé, the general manager of L’Occitane SEA, Irene Goh, decided to bring something sweet and similar to sunny Singapore. A custom-built, locally charged L’Occitane Cafe will land here for the first time, from July 3-16, 2018.
Singapore’s dessert doyen Janice Wong was selected to exchange recipes with the organic beauty brand, famous for its herbal-floral hand creams, fragrances and bath products. Goh muses, “Who better [to collaborate with in Singapore] than a protege of Pierre Hermé himself?”
Every epicurean in Singapore knows Janice Wong. The celebrity confectionery chef actually learnt her craft in France from Hermé. Her colourful creations continue to delight many around the world, including Tokyo, which is incidentally where L’Occitane Cafe is the most popular.
“We knew that L’Occitane Cafe is a hit, especially the one in Shibuya,” says Goh. “Many customers have asked if we would have a cafe in Singapore as well and it is great that we can finally make this dream into a reality via our biggest brand showcase of the year.”
Taste These Natural Beauties
With this pop-up, you can experience the brand’s indulgent treats inspired by a place of natural beauty – Provence. Wong has crafted a line-up of bons bons, macarons and desserts that take inspiration from French Provencal ingredients that are used to create L’Occitane products.
Expect flavours of cherry blossoms, verbenas, bergamots, roses and almonds. It would seem nature gets reinvented at L’Occitane while perceptions are challenged with Wong’s culinary chefs-d’oeuvre.
Haute-Pâtisserie And Haute-Parfums
The pop-up picture is actually bigger. The L’Occitane Cafe in Singapore is part of an overall immersive pop-up experience called ‘A Journey In Every Sense’, where visitors will not only get to taste but smell the natural ingredients for themselves in an interactive event space inspired by the L’Occitane stores in France.
Follow The Yellow
The French skincare brand will bring in plenty of bright yellows to the level 1 atrium of Ion Orchard. The colour calls out to the warmth of the South and hopes to uplift visitors’ sensorial journeys across an authentic Provence. Enjoy Provencal shopping while indulging in tidbits, complete with the same French music one would play in Provence.
The Feel Of Provence
All in all, with the sights, smells and tastes, you’ll really feel like you’re sitting at a multi-concept cafe in Aix-en-Provence. The event space will also house a beauty bar for you to try L’Occitane products, or sit and listen to the stories of harvesters who hand-pick the ingredients that go into the products.
Experience all five senses of Provence — sight, scent, sound, taste and feel — at the “A Journey in Every Sense” pop-up by L’Occitane from July 3-16 at L1 Atrium, Ion Orchard.
