If you think beauty tech is all about cleansing gears and high-powered hair dryers, you’re probably just half right. Slow as the beauty world may seem when it comes to introducing new devices to a woman’s regimen, we can’t help getting excited with the result we have every time a cult gadget comes knocking on our beauty cabinet — like Clarisonic once did. Fast forward to 2018 — and “smart mask” is a new word you need to add to your beauty lexicon.
So, what exactly is the “smart mask”?
This latest innovation from Foreo — a Swedish beauty tech startup behind a range of cool cleansing and eye-massaging devices — was first introduced to the world earlier this year at a tech fair in the USA. Since then, it’s become a daring of beauty bloggers and editors alike, thanks above all to its promise to deliver the spa-caliber facial treatment within just 90 seconds. It basically is a round, colourful UFO-shape device with a removable plastic ring on its back to secure a round sheet mask. You start the regimen by simply pressing the button on the device or activating it from your smartphone for a more customised treatment.
How does it work?
The Foreo UFO combines different technologies: Hyper-infusion technology, T-Sonic™ pulsations, cryotherapy and LED light therapy treatments (blue, green and red) to create an at-home spa-facial and eradicate the need for traditional sheet masks that keep you sitting still for 20 minutes at a time to complete. The hyper-infusion technology uses heat to open pores, T-Sonic™ pulsations to instantly infuse active ingredients more deeply into the skin and cryotherapy to seal the active ingredients and firm the skin.
In addition, a range of LED light therapy treatments offer three photofacials, including anti-aging (red LED), brightening (green LED) and anti-acne (blue LED).
So, we still need the sheet masks right?
Yes, Foreo UFO works hand-in-hand with the specially invented UFO-activated sheet masks. All UFO Smart Masks are made from ultra-soft microfibre material in Korea. Each formula is crafted precisely and infused with the purest ingredients to include all the goodness for the skin. They are free of parabens, phenoxyethanol, silicones, disodium EDTA and mineral oil.
If you can just press the button to make the device work, why bother activating it from your phone?
Foreo UFO offers seven different sheet mask formulas to respond to all skin’s needs. Using the smartphone to activate the device (which includes scanning the barcode of the mask) ensures the device utilises the best facial programme foreach particular sheet mask. At the moment, only two formulas are available in Thailand: ‘Make My Day’ and ‘Call It A Night.’ Five more formulas: Glow Addict, Youth Junkie, H2Overdose, Shimmer Freak and Matte Maniac will be available by the end of this year.
Foreo UFO retails at THB9,999 and is available at all Sephora stores.
