The Prestige Tastemakers Ball 2018 may be over but we’re not yet over it! Here are our picks of the most talked-about and memorable moments.
1. When our awards were dominated by the retail sector.
Out of eight Tastemakers awards, two were given to retail trailblazers: Charn Srivikorn, Chairman of Gaysorn Property, for the Visionary category, and Central Group’s Tos Chirathivat (who was represented by Central Embassy’s Barom Bhicharnchitr) for the Leadership category. With such creative and visionary powerhouses in the industry, it’s not surprising that Bangkok is never short of retail spaces that become so much more than just shopping malls!
2. When our sponsors’ booths are so Instagram-friendly.
It’s not easy to usher guests into the ballroom and get them seated at the scheduled time when all of our sponsors came up with such stunning, Instagram-friendly booths and activity corners. From an array of gorgeous and colourful handbags lined up on shelves at Tichaxury to Park Court Sukhumvit 77 by MK Real Estate’s gigantic photo frame, Hublot’s two-dimensional disco-ball backdrop, Clé De Peau Beauté’s powder room-inspired photo closet, the Bentley Continental GT and Mont Azure’s mermaid at the Oyster Bar, there was no shortage of photo opportunities at our party.
And when we popped outside the foyer, there were always guests taking selfies at the stunning staircase of Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, where our event took place.
3. When our drinks are anything but ordinary.
Good time begins with good drinks. We’re blessedto partner with some of the world’s best beverage companies. Our champagne partner, Piper-Heidsieck, is also called “red carpet champagne” because they are the official champagne sponsor of both the Cannes Film Festival and the Oscars. Our water, Sanpellegrino, actually used the Prestige Tastemakers Ball 2018 as the Thailand launch of a new special edition Sanpellegrino. Johnny Walker Gold Label Reserve, on the other hand, came up with a sumptuous, gold-tinted concoction that’s so divine you literally had to queue for it! And for wine lovers, Italasia had them well covered, too.
4. When all the guests were dressed to the nines, and also to the dress code!
We know “Studio 54” isn’t the easiest theme to follow, especially when our lavish ball was held in a luxurious hotel in the heart of Bangkok and not a nightclub in Manhattan! But believe it or not, our glamorous guests nailed it with ease, living up to the challenge to rival the glitz and glam of the era.
Our night glistened in all shades of metallic — gold and silver — and the sparkles of sequins and glitter nearly blinded us!
5. When three ladies turned up in the same Milin dress.
And on top of that, they were pretty cool about it! Jareyadee Spencer, Sittharmanin Susamawathanakun, winner of a Tastemakers Award in the Style category, and Sarita Chintakanond all wore Milin’s silver-sequinned Ramsay dress. This popular outfit is the highlight look from the spring-summer 2018 “Milin Limited” collection by designer Milin Yavacharuskul (whose brother, Pumin Yuvacharuskul, also won a Tastemakers Award – in the“Digital & Innovation” category). The best part, however, was how cool all three beauties were about what would usually be an awkward situation. They even happily took so many photos together that it became one of the most widely shared and liked images of the night.
6. When our awardee took over the turntable.
What could be a better way to kick-start a party than to have one of the Tastemakers, Paulie Sirisant, who is also the head of Universal Music in Thailand, spin the tunes himself? He wrote on Facebook: “Thanks Prestige Magazine for the honorable Arts & Music Award. Music defines culture, and I’ve been shaping my perspective of the culture over two decades of DJing and putting on music experiences. With my new role at Universal Music Group, I am still determined to discover new local musical artists and put them on the map – and continue to help define this culture of ours.”
7. When Jay Spencer won a Tichaxury’s crocodile leather handbag.
And his wife shared with our editor in a Facebook message, “It’s beautiful… and it looks better on me!” Well, we concur, and we are sure Jay does, too!
