Making its Singapore premiere at Steinway & Sons’ Pioneering Pianists Of Southeast Asia concert series is the new Spirio|r player piano, which can record, save, edit and play back live performances in a high-resolution format. Its outstanding sound and functions were showcased over two evenings at Victoria Concert Hall, first in renowned Filipino pianist Raul Sunico’s recital, Love Letters from Home, then in famed Thai composer-pianist Nat Yontararak’s The Light of My Homeland. Sunico took the audience on a cross-cultural musical journey with Romantic classics from Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Liszt, Filipino folk tunes and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, while Yontararak enthralled with technically demanding original works, Thai folk songs and his own transcriptions of two of the late King Rama IX’s compositions. In attendance were members of the diplomatic corp, including Thai ambassador to Singapore Manopchai Vongphakdi and Philippines ambassador to Singapore Joseph Del Mar Yap, along with guest of honour Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information as well as Culture, Community and Youth.
