The Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) celebrates International Women’s Day every year with a gala dinner. This year’s event, held at The St. Regis Singapore’s John Jacob Ballroom, saw eight women – athletes Kandasamy Jayamani and Glory Barnabas, educators Liew Yuen Sien and Evelyn Norris, broadcast pioneer Zahrah Za’ba, award-winning author Tham Yew Chin, Florence Chua Siew Lian, the first female Deputy Commissioner of Police, and Gan Siow Huang, the first female Brigadier-General in the Singapore Armed Forces – inducted into the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame (SWHF). They were presented with The Flame, the SWHF trophy, by the guest of honour, SCWO patron President Halimah Yacob, who also announced the government-supported Seeds of Change Fund for women’s organisations addressing employment and health issues. The night, which saw performances by the Académie of Stars, ended with a raffle draw that yielded more than $7,000, which went towards the SCWO Service Fund.
