Happy Pride Month! Entering the first week of June, many of us might still be feeling slightly disoriented by getting back on the grind after yet another long weekend (“wait, is this Wednesday, Tuesday, or Monday?”). For those who are truly beginning to worry about not being able to settle back into a five-day work week, worry not — as to be expected of Bangkok, there’s plenty of exciting happenings taking place throughout the city to make you feel like you’re having fun anyway, despite the burden of nine-to-five responsibilities. From a Michelin-star worthy pop-up to an exhibition of satirical comics from the 80s, and Southeast Asia’s first ever World Class Cocktail Festival, here’s what you should be fitting into your schedules this week!
WINE & DINE — La Tavola & Wine Bar is hosting a five-day pop-up featuring award-winning chef Luigi from Michelin-starred LUME in Milan. Taking over the kitchens from lunch to dinner, expect a combination of traditional flavours, prepared with an innovative twist. Making it even more enticing is the use of fresh, locally sourced ingredients — the result? Healthy, delicious plates created to delight. Don’t miss!
THB1,490 for 3-course lunch, THB2,890 for 5-course lunch and dinner, THB3,891 for 7-course dinner. Until June 8, 2019. La Tavola & Wine Bar, Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel. To reserve your seats or find out more, call 0 2125 5000, or visit eventpop.me.
NEWS & EVENTS — If you’ve been dining out a little too much over the many consecutive long weekends, here’s something you might want to check out. Thailand’s biggest fitness event is set to take place, bringing trial classes, competitions and exciting showcases of cutting-edge fitness tech to Central World. If you’re in for the shopping, don’t worry — you can also check out the booths selling everything from sportswear, shoes, and even healthy food and supplements.
June 6 – 9, 2019. Central World. To find out more, visit fitfest.asia.
WINE & DINE — Ekkamai hang-out spot Nowhere Bkk is collaborating with The Banana Warrior to bring back Plant People for its second installment. Expect a farmers market based on — and we quote directly — “plants, happy people and good vibes”. Go for the artisan vendors and new vegan menu, stay because the plant based cocktails really are rather innovative, and the DJs will be playing some pretty fun beats.
1pm onwards, June 9, 2019. To reserve your seats or find out more, call 09 9394 4417, or visit the official Facebook event page.
WINE & DINE — Cocktail enthusiasts have something pretty big to get excited about this week, as Southeast Asia’s first ever World Class Cocktail Festival is on its way, and will be taking place in Bangkok! The city’s best bars are set to gather over the seven day affair, serving signature cocktails reimagined with a Thai twist, created using premium spirits from Diageo’s collection. Not only will Bangkok’s best bartenders be present, but there will also be collaborations with some of the world’s top names, including celebrated UK bartender Daniel Schofield who will be at The St. Regis Bar on Wednesday June 5!
June 5 – 11, 2019. The St. Regis Bar. To find out more, visit the official Facebook event page.
ART & CULTURE — Considered a legend in the art industry, veteran artist Apichai Bhakdibutr is known for daringly satirical illustrations, and being the only Thai person ever to have their artwork grace the covers of Germany’s MAD magazine. For ‘It’s Still a Mad, Mad World’ Apichai brings over 20 of his original sketches and snarky cartoons to Woof Pack. Encompassing a collection of his work from the 80s, the illustrations take us back to a time where technology was far less dominant in the creative industry — what’s interesting is the way his satire remains as relevant today as it did nearly half a century ago. The exhibition will also feature some new pieces in which Apichai tackles existing issues in the current socio-political scene with his wit and humour.
Until June 26, Woof Pack. To find out more, call 08 9826 2299, or see the official Facebook event page.
