Entering the second week of May, this marks a full week sandwiched between two long weekends — which, frankly, can be rather disconcerting as we’ve gradually grown accustomed to having Monday off. In fact, certain countries are beginning to implement a four day work week system — perhaps something for Thailand to consider? — but that is perhaps a story for another day. To those who’re feeling slightly blue about having to actually be at work this Monday till Friday, don’t fret! Not only is next week another long weekend, but there’s also plenty happening this week to keep things fun and entertaining despite the lack of holidays. From dynamic events in the wine and dine scene to a meaningful film screening, scroll to see your plans for the week!
WINE & DINE — Our beloved chef Chudaree “Tam” Debhakam, of Top Chef Thailand, strikes again! This week, she’ll be over at Thonglor’s newly opened SulBkk for a special collaboration tasting menu — complete with beer pairings! Expect a selection of Tapas-style dishes especially prepared by chef Tam herself, complemented with free-flow beers from Birra Baladin. If you don’t feel like a fine-dining night out, don’t worry, this event is far from a sit down dinner! Instead, each menu item will be served cocktail-style, and beers will be flowing for a fun, night-out vibe. What’s not to love?
THB1,500 for a seven course tasting menu and free-flow beers. May 13, 2019. SulBKK, Thonglor soi 10. TO reserve your spot or find out more, call 08 1911 1701, or visit the official Facebook event page.
ART & CULTURE — The Belgian Embassy will be organising a film screening for ‘Girl’ at the Alliance Française. The film tells the story of 15 year old Lara who dreams of becoming a ballerina. She’s accepted into ballet school, and is close to reaching her dreams, save for one problem — she was born into the body of a boy. The screening will be preceded by testimonees from Kath Khangpiboon of Thai TGA, Jimmy Chotidhanitsakul of TEAK, and Prempreeda Pramoj, the vice president of the Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand. It will also open the exhibition ‘Fleur — Blooming of Diversity’, by Sudaporn Teja, which showcases mixed-media artwork inspired by the stories from the LGBTQ community.

Food-wise, the dinner comes with seven courses — highlight dishes include milk-fed veal, jerusalem artichokes and safflower. As a bonus, the dinners will also be specially accompanied with wine pairing by group sommelier Thanakorn Mankit.
