Prestige Planner: Best Things to Do This Week (April 29 – May 5)

With the weather hitting 36°C, your plans for “basking in the summer sun” might need to take a backseat for a while, lest you want to get heatstroke. Thankfully, there are plenty of indoor-based things to do happening this week as we make the cross from April into May. In the dining scene, we see a special six-hands collaboration dinner inspired by the sea, as well as a kitchen takeover at 72 Courtyard’s Touché Hombre in celebration of Cinco de Mayo.

Lovers of photography should head over to Leica Gallery, where one of Thailand’s most notable photographers, Peerapat “Add” Wimolrungkarat, will be hosting his own exhibition, complete with an Artists’ Talk and walkthrough. RBSO will also be hosting another performance this week, gathering young talents to sing special renditions of broadway classics in what promises to be a pretty spectacular performance. With so much reason to be out and about this week, be sure, as always, to stay hydrated and put on that sun protection! Scroll to see the best things to do this week.

ART & CULTURE — So maybe hot weather doesn’t scare you, and you’re an outdoors person through and through. If that’s the case, worry not, you can still be your sun-loving self thanks to the return of the Petit Pink Picnic! Following the success of its previous event, The Bar Upstairs is bringing back its fabulous all-pink evening of rosé, pink cocktails, and mini picnic baskets filled with cheese and cold cut goodies. There will once again be a DJ spinning sick beats, so you know you’re in for a night out of good food, good drinks, and great vibes. Don’t forget the dress code – pink and white!

Featuring an eight-course dinner of specially curated dishes, all the food served is inspired by the beauty and stories from deep undersea. THB4,500. 6pm and 9pm onwards, April 30, 2019. ART & CULTURE — Peerapat “Add” Wimolrungkarat is considered to be one of Thailand’s most notable life photographers. Through his exhibition ‘Sense of Place’ at Leica Gallery Bangkok, he portrays the world through his own eyes for the public to experience, through simple yet moving snapshots that explore his identity as a photographer. His work forms a connection between the space and its living habitats, juxtaposing between the fluctuating flow of time and the existing landscape. The images show that what appears to the eye at first glance gradually takes on a deeper meaning, as subtle details become clearer upon careful inspection. Bringing audiences closer to the exhibition and the work itself, Add will also be hosting a special artist talk later on in May, showing the behind-the-scenes of the exhibition, as well as a personal exhibition walk-through.

April 30 – June 16, 2019. Leica Gallery Bangkok. To find out more, visit the official Facebook event page.

ART & CULTURE — RBSO will be hosting a special concert, featuring the eight young talents who won the third RBSO ‘Search for Talent Vocal Competition’. While young in age — ranging from ages 8 – 16 — the performers are far from inexperienced, having graced global vocal competitions from Rome in Italy and even the Carnegie Hall in New York City. They’ve made professional appearances in operas, staged musicals and television programmes — and some are attending some of Thailand’s most prestigious pre-college music programmes. For the concert, expect a repertoire of well-known solo selections from Broadway classics, ranging from Empty Chairs at Empty Tables in Les Misérables, to Now That I’ve Seen Her in Miss Saigon, and even Hairspray’s positive I Can Hear the Bells. The talents will be performing together with the RBSO, under the skilled baton of Asst Prof Dr Nora-ath Chanklum.

THB300, 500 and 800. 8pm, May 3, 2019. Thailand Cultural Center. To get your tickets or find out more, visit, or check out the official Facebook event page.

WINE & DINE — In celebration of Cinco De Mayo, 72 Courtyard’s Touché Hombre will be inviting Ash Kickers Briskets & Bourbon — an American-style smokehouse known for great barbecues  and slow-cooked meats — for a one-night only kitchen takeover. Led by co-founders chef Colin Stevens and Gary Stewart, Ash Kickers will be serving a variety of their signature smoked meats and Mexican-flavoured a la carte menus — meat lovers have a lot to look forward to. Go for the smoked beef brisket, crispy pork belly and grilled prawn, stay for the piñata and special Patron tequila cocktails. Also make a note of the dress code — free shots for everyone who shows up in a sombrero!

THB500. 7pm-late, May 4, 2019. Touché Hombre, 72 Courtyard. To reserve your seats or find out more, visit, or visit the official Facebook event page
