Entering the last week of May, we have a couple of events in store to send off a rather full month. In the art scene are a few exhibitions to check out, ranging from group efforts to a solo show by Tawan Wattuya. Another Story has launched a rainbow-themed collection to celebrate the upcoming Pride Month, and we have another pool party on the agenda. Scroll to see your plans this week!
ART & CULTURE — Art, wine, and great people are invited to meet and mingle at the return of Paint and Wine by The Hive Prakanong. Expect a freestyle painting session, for people of all levels. Those who attend will receive two complimentary glasses of wine — because, really, what better way is there to fuel your creative juices? — and a medium sized canvas that can be brought home after.
THB400 for non-members, THB250 for members. 7-10pm, May 30, 2019. The Hive Prakanong. To reserve your spot or find out more, click here.
ART & CULTURE — A group exhibition at Gallery Ver, Footnotes on Institution feature five contemporary artists — Latthapon Korkiatarkul, Nipan Oranniwesna, Saroot Supasuthivech, Apichart Thitiwongworasakul and Pongsakorn Yananissorn, under the curation of Pojai Akratanakul. The purpose of the exhibition is to bring together past work and new commissions in different methods, highlighting the meaning behind an ‘art institution’. True to its name, the entire exhibition functions like a footnote, providing extra information that otherwise do not exist on the page.
Opening reception from 7pm onwards, June 1. The exhibition lasts until July 7, 2019. Gallery Ver. To find out more, visit the official Facebook event page.
ART & CULTURE — A solo exhibition by Tawan Wattuya, Amnesia follows the artists signature approach of tackling controversial socio-political issues, and squarely confronts the chronic political violence which exists in Thailand. Through masterful works of watercolour, Tawan’s portraits represent victims who were affected by the suppression of political protests that occured during April to May of 2010, when over a hundred people died. While the exhibition itself may be titled Amnesia, dealing with large-scale memory loss, the art actually serves to revive memories of the past — a closer look at the portraits reveals real humans and their lives through portraits of distinct individuals.
Until July 14, 2019. 1Projects, Charoenkrung soi 28. To find out more, visit the official Facebook event page.
