The holiday season is finally upon us, and—as with every year—Bangkok begins to shine brighter than usual as the city’s property moguls begin pulling out their festive surprises of the year. The annual showdown of whose decor is most extravagant might be an unspoken competition, but the results are definitely loud, and this year the playing field is full of impressive new contenders. Gaysorn enters the fray post-renovation with the spectacular Gaysorn Christmas Village, while down by the river Iconsiam is readying it’s 1,400 km long line of eco-friendly fireworks.
If you’re trying to figure out where to start your journey of festive vibes and seasonal snapshots, we’ve got you covered. From the tallest Christmas tree in Bangkok, to 100 Santas and even the world’s first Swarovski merry go round, we’ve rounded up a list of the five malls whose festive lights you cannot miss this year end. Scroll to get started on the holiday cheer!
The EM District: ‘Winter Wonderland 2019’
Over at Sukhumvit, the two mega malls of Phrom Phong are preparing to enter 2019 with spunk and opulence. Go for the dreamy baubles in red and gold, the festive warmth, and the breathtaking fake snow that makes you feel truly in a wonderland far, far away. Stay because the dancing Santas are by far the cutest in the city—from energised head-spins to adorable dance moves, you could spend hours watching them dance to the festive beats. They’re also joined by other mascots, including classic gingerbread soldiers, as well as drumming figures from the Nutcracker.

Central World: ‘Digital Swarovski Christmas Merry Go Round’
When it comes to festivities and the big countdown, Central World is one of the first places that come to mind. This year, the shopping complex continues its long-standing streak of annual brilliance with its ‘World of Happiness @CentralWorld’ at the large outdoor activities square. Filled with dazzle and cheerful smiley motifs, the key highlight is hands-down the world’s first ever Outdoor Digital Swarovski Christmas Merry Go Round. Shining with bright lights and a pristine white only expected of the premium jewellery brand, you really do not want to miss your chance to ride on the dreamiest merry go round in town this year. Here’s the best part—the structure is decked with over 4,000,000 Swarovski crystals.

Central Embassy: ‘Let’s Celebrate 2019 Together’

Hanging from the ceilings and scattered throughout the mall, see how many you can count on your next visit to Central’s upscale flagship space. Enter the Snow Globe for your seasonal snapshots or spend time designing your own baubles for the Christmas tree. The highlight you definitely don’t want to miss is Santa’s Wonderland—located on the ground floor, get into the spirit of play play play in the massive Santa-shaped bouncy castle playground, complete with nostalgia-inducing ball pit.

Central Chidlom: ‘Bangkok’s Tallest Xmas Tree’
What makes ‘Let’s Celebrate 2019 Together’ one of Bangkok’s best and biggest every holiday are the brains behind all the decor—cue Central Embassy and Central Chidlom. Once you’re done bouncing your way through the blown-up Santa’s Playground at Embassy, be sure to head down the festive ‘Xmas Tunnel’ connecting it to Central Chidlom, where more wonders await. Head outside to see the gigantic Rooftop Santa perched cheerfully atop Morakot Car Park, and prepare to be blown away by Bangkok’s Tallest Xmas Tree—a structure over 30 metres tall, built out of lights.

As part of OneSiam’s The Festival Of Light 2019, Siam Paragon’s outer area has been full glitzed up with a Crystal Tree reaching up to 15 metres tall, along with endearing figurines of elves and fairies. The highlight of the lighting festival is without a doubt the Crystal Walk, a breathtaking geometric tunnel filled with dreamy fairy lights.
