Though we’re only midway into February, 2019 has so far been an eventful year for Bangkok’s food scene. Out of all the exciting openings, collaborations and pop-up events happening across town, among them is arguably the most hyped occasion so far — the opening of Taco Bell Thailand.

Even before the long waiting-lines extended out of The Mercury Ville at Chidlom, the internet has been abuzz with anticipation for the Mexican-inspired chain’s much-awaited arrival. When the day finally came for Taco Bell’s first ever Thai branch to open its doors, everyone was tuned into the affair. The grand opening event saw Thailand’s A-list celebrities, prominent society faces and glitterati gathered on the 1st floor of The Mercury Ville. Names such as Khunying Rose Boribalburibhand, Kamolsut Dabbaransi and Chanadda Chirathivat were seen in attendance, among many others, who’d made the time to join in on the hearty celebrations.

Liz Williams, president of Taco Bell International was also at the event, where she and Chalermchai Mahagitsiri — president and chief executive of Thoresen Thai Agencies Public Company Limited — introduced the famous semi-Mexican style restaurant that had come all the way from the USA.

Guests enjoyed a fun-filled evening of upbeat mingling, along with a special mini concert afterwards by Popetorn Soonthornyanakij. The highlight of the event, of course, was in the food — guests at the event got the exclusive opportunity to try the dishes that have made such great waves in the city. Highlight menus including the ‘Kickin’ Chicken Taco’, ‘Taco Supreme’, ‘Crunchwrap Supreme’ and quesadilla were passed around, served with special recipe drinks such as the ‘Taco Bell Freeze’, ‘Mango Madness’, ‘Tropical Punch’ and ‘Berry Blue’.
