For Pitcha “Maye” Thanalongkorn of Sabina, her vision for her family-owned empire has taken Thailand’s first lingerie company into a powerhouse and leader in e-commerce.
If one would have to liken Maye to Ginger Rogers – doing everything Fred Astaire did but backwards and in heels – she sure looks the part. Dressed in a casual pantsuit and heeled pumps, she exudes subtle femininity with a laidback self-assuredness most young women of her age normally don’t possess.
Initially setting goal to become a fashion designer, Maye soon realised that it would take more than just design skills in order to accomplish her vision at Sabina. “I wanted to focus solely on design, but decided to take my parents’ advice to supplement my creative aspirations with business skills.” It was thanks to this decision that Maye attended London College of Fashion to pursued a degree in Fashion Design and Marketing—a choice which she ended up loving more than purely just going the design route. “I love the psychology involved in marketing. I have no regrets pursuing this route.”
The well-travelled Chief Marketing Officer is the third generation to run Sabina, her family’s lingerie empire. With her at the helm, the business has transformed into a modern, household brand in touch with the times – empowering Thai women to be the kind of individual Maye embodies: confident, sexy, and unafraid to take on the world. “I wanted to change Thai women’s perception of lingerie. It shouldn’t have to be hidden under your clothes. I believe women should have the choice to feel emboldened to wear whatever they want and be comfortable in their own skin, whether that means pairing a lace bralette with jeans or wearing it under a shirt.”
