If you like: Celebrations that do it big
What’s going on: Translating to ‘Temple of Supreme Bliss’ in the Hokkien dialect, the Kek Lok Si temple in one of the biggest attractions in Penang. Every year, the 125-year-old temple puts on a beautiful lighting display of more than 10,000 lights to celebrate the Chinese New Year, and all is welcome.

What’s going on: Get ready to move your feet! The Frankie Sixes are flexing their jazz muscles this weekend at Alexis, covering music from some of the greats like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole.

If you like: Arts and crafts
What’s going on: Hashimoto Kaoru will be teaching the art of creating ‘uchiwa’; Japanese paper fans. Using only a pen, she has mastered the delicate techniques needed to draw out her designs, and has previously held exhibitions in Paris, Singapore and Thailand.
