PMT The Hour Glass and Ulysse Nardin Launch the ‘X’ Collection

On May 22, we had the pleasure of joining a couple of Thailand’s top watch collectors in an intimate dinner gathering, where The Hour Glass and Ulysse Nardin collaborated to unveil their latest collection of watches from SIHH 2019 — the ‘X Collection’. Here’s why we love such events — the kinds which are exclusively attended by top spenders, avid collectors and enthusiasts who are genuinely passionate about the product. There’s always a sense of excitement that goes beyond general appreciation — a thrill that comes with the prospect of both exploration and possession. This affair was no different. Held at the Pavilion Room in Rosewood Hotel, guests celebrated the innovation and design behind the new collection, in particular the Freak X and Skeleton X. The X Collection: What’s the Hype?

Following the tagline of ‘We Xplore, We Xcite, We Xist, We are Ulysse’, the X Collection reflects the brands’ new underlying concept for 2019 — one that branches from Ulysse Nardin’s philosophy to empower those who dare-to-be-different and are not afraid to face challenges head-on. Inspired by the sea, the timepieces are ideal for the free-spirited, reflecting the untamable yet graceful nature of the ocean. Among the designs in the line, we celebrated two main models — the Freak X and Skeleton X.

Freak X

Pushing the boundaries of what’s been done before, Freak X takes the basic functional and aesthetic elements of the original Freak collection, and takes it to the next level — namely by tightening the sizing from 45mm to 43mm, and adding a crown for time setting.

Skeleton X

Dubbed an x-ray vision of the next generation, the Skeleton X boldy bares the technology behind it. The manufacture movement is exhibited for all to see — what is often concealed, this design reveals. An openworked wonder, wearers can marvel at the technology behind the watchface.

The Event: What Went Down?

An exclusive dinner event, guests in attendance got the opportunity to marvel at the new timepieces up-close. Through specially arranged watch displays, visitors were encouraged to explore the beautiful designs, as well as the technology behind them, and even try on the watches.

There was also a fun photo booth, complete with an X-Ray like gimmick to reflect the concept of the collection. The watches were exhibited against a backdrop of shark images — reflecting the powerful shark fins that inspired the designs and show the connection between the brand and the seas. There were, of course, free-flow drinks and delicious canapes, and even special visits by celebrities known for their passion towards the underwater world.

Who was There?

At the event, Narun Thamavaranukup — managing director of PMT The Hour Glass — welcomed the director of research and innovation of Ulysse Nardin Stéphane Von Gunten, as well as Romain Rossat, the South East Asia Region manager. The two honoured guests joined the event to introduce the new collection of watches to the guests in attendance, including names such as Thananchakorn Chia-Apar, Tanasan Vichitkarn, and Parthit Pisitkul.
