Sipim Sugunnasil has a deep passion for English literature and social anthropology, but found her footing in the luxury retail industry. After her rich experience working with global brands such as Fendi and Loewe, and the luxury hospitality brand Kempinski, Sipim is now heading Cartier Thailand as its PR and communications director. “In Thailand, most brand organisations are relatively flat, so I was extremely pleased to be promoted to a director, which is a position we have never had before here. I’m just very happy that my colleagues, supervisors and headquarters saw my potential. It’s been six years that I have been working here, and I still find it exciting.”

As someone working in a sector starkly different from her studies, Sipim advises young first-jobbers still finding their way to not close themselves from the unfamiliar. “If you don’t know yourself yet, go about it with a trial and error attitude, give your very best shot, but at the same time be honest with yourself whether the job satisfies you or not. If it doesn’t, walk away and try something else. Don’t be discouraged yet if the process takes time.” To excel in working at luxury brands, she says, “Try not to be illusioned by the glamour. That is one tiny part of the entire work scope. It also helps when you take interest in the maison you work for, as you spend so much time at work. If you are happy, it will show through your work quality. Cartier has 170 years of history and heritage and it’s all been great enriching fun for me to learn all of their stories along the way.”
