Sutima “Junko” Sucharitakul

Founder, NOVA Contemporary
A Master’s in Art Business at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London ignited the start of Sutima’s illustrious art career. With a second Master’s in History of Art – specialising in Southeast Asia – from the School of Oriental and African Studies, she cultivated an interest in antiquity and buddhist art, greatly aided by her upbringing in Thailand. Sutima’s first venture into the art industry involved her interning in the Southeast Asia Art department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where she assisted their Southeast Asian curators on one of the biggest international loan exhibitions featuring 5th-7th-century Buddhist art. After spending over a decade abroad, Sutima decided to move back to Thailand in 2014. Two years later, she established Nova Contemporary in Bangkok. Applying her diverse experience, expertise and discoveries abroad to her new position as a gallery owner, she has since led Nova Contemporary to host an exciting mix of exhibitions showcasing both Thai and international artists. Through her endeavours, Sutima hopes to cultivate the reciprocal exchange of Thailand’s contemporary art and culture to Southeast Asia and beyond.
