Get your dose of Andy Warhol in Bangkok through 128 original works of art and memorabilia.
Bangkok-dwelling pop art lovers have a lot to get excited about, as River City Bangkok brings in its latest exhibition yet — ‘Andy Warhol: Pop Art’. In fact, by now you’ve probably seen the #WarholAndI hashtags on social media. Featuring 128 original artwork from Andy Warhol, along with a series of fascinating memorabilia by the international pop-art icon, the exhibition draws from the private collection of Italian Gianfranco Rosini.
Italian-born Rosini was an art enthusiast who’d come across many well-known celebrities over the years — including Judy Garland’s daughter, Liza Minelli, whose portrait by Andy Warhol can be viewed at the exhibition. It was Minelli who’d introduced Rosini to Warhol, when the two were in Rome during 1985. Today, his private collection can be considered the largest collection of Andy Warhol’s work to exist.
Vibrant, colourful, and very instagrammable, the exhibition is split into self-portraits and photos, celebrity portraits, magazine and album covers, silk printing, and sculptures. Classic Warhol quotes are printed in black across white walls — among the most popular being, “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.”
Cans of Campbell tomato soup can be spotted, stacked in a fun installation, while you’ll also find iconic Andy Warhol pieces, including the instantly-recognised Shot Marilyns and more. For hardcore Warhol fans, there’s even a book available for purchase about the exhibition, along with souvenirs at the RCB Gallery Shop. You also don’t want to miss out on the customary sofa shot in front of the exhibition sign, as well as an image with the floating foil balloons.
Andy Warhol: Pop Art is showing at RCB Galleria, on the 2nd floor of River City Bangkok, until November 24, 2020. Tickets are THB400 per adult, and THB300 for students and seniors. To find out more, visit rivercitybangkok.com.
