A cultural rebirth: Get to Know the Artists Featured
The Renaissance era, also known as the medieval period, marked the beginning of the 15th Century, and undoubtedly the most influential time of history. Bridging the gap between the Middle Ages and modern-day civilisation, it was a time when society strived towards innovation, and the rediscovery of classical philosophy. Some of the greatest artists blossomed during this Dark Age. Seeds of the modern world were sown and grown during the Renaissance era, and continue to influence creative and cultural arenas today.
One of the most revered painters of all time and also a true genius, Leonardo da Vinci, graced the world with his one-of-a-kind paintings. Truly the epitome of a ‘Renaissance man’, Da Vinci’s mastery in many fields made him a legend in the realm of art. It’s no surprise that we always tend to associate the Renaissance Age with Da Vinci’s iconic paintings. Another brilliant artist from the Italian Renaissance, Michelangelo, notable for his way of depicting the human body during the medieval period, was one of art history’s earliest true “characters”. The 17-foot tall “David” and the elegant depiction of “The Pieta” are the most poetic sculptures created in art history.
Raphael, recognised for his groundbreaking masterpieces, was also the master of High Renaissance art such as sfumato, expression, clarity of form, and authentic emotionality. One of the most prolific artists, Botticelli, brought together the emerging Humanist Realism and Medieval Gothic Style of painting. Botticelli’s large-scale paintings like Primavera has been one of the most popular pieces at the Uffizi Gallery.
The ‘Italian Renaissance’ multimedia exhibition does not only promise us an enchanting journey but offers us a way to celebrate and rediscover the Renaissance era. Visitors can feel free to join the ongoing activities, discussions by Thai and International experts, and participate in workshops as well.
