“It is not very often that I get the chance to take in such pure, untainted sceneries. For that reason, whenever the opportunity arises, I want to capture all the little details through snapshots as keepsakes.” — HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana
Those who were at HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana’s Sirivannavari Spring/Summer 2019 show on Thursday, March 14 would have witnessed a near-alternate universe — one accentuated by an enchanting blend of primitive, safari-esque emblems meets futuristic flair. Grounded in storytelling, HRH Princess Sirivannavari’s designs get their poetic, mesmerising appeal from her own experiences.
Before embarking on each fashion collection, she would personally travel to various destinations across the globe, in search of new inspiration. This year, for the first time in a decade, audiences are given a chance to glimpse at the globe-trotting adventures that inspired her latest work, as she unveils her own photography exhibition ‘Little Wild’ at Leica Gallery Bangkok.
Through documentary-style snapshots taken through a Leica camera, ‘Little Wild’ takes us through her trip in Kenya, Africa — considered one of her most adventurous excursions yet. Whether on jeep rides through rainy savannahs or hot air balloons, the Princess captured both still and motion shots, while also making illustrations on her sketchbook.
The result is a series of images that emphasise the natural beauty of her surroundings, from warm sunbeams on wide plains to the fiery yet graceful forms of wild creatures in motion. Her fascination goes deeper than the majestic tigers and stunning giraffes, but also extends towards the people of Maasai — an ethnic group she got to know personally.
Experience the exhibition firsthand at Leica Gallery Bangkok, 2nd floor of Gaysorn Village from today until April 28, 2019. To find out more, call 0 2656 1102, or visit FB @LeicaGalleryBangkok.
