Contrary to the popular belief that galleries are peaceful and solemn spaces for mulling over art, the Bangkok Art and Culture Center is perky and bustling in the best of ways – a true haven for contemporary art lovers.
Situated in one of Bangkok’s busiest commercial districts, the architecture itself, with its corkscrew ramp that resembles New York’s Guggenheim Museum, is a must-see landmark and definitely a cool place to see.
BACC’s main exhibition hall is on the 7-9th floor. There aren’t any must-see permanent pieces or collections, new shows rotate every few months to keep the atmosphere fresh and exciting.
The gallery normally holds three sets of art at a time, which can be anything, including installations, sculptures, paintings, photography and new media. Although dominated by contemporary works, BACC sometimes presents a number of modernist pieces. Every year, it also features the masterpieces of one of Thailand’s National Artists.
Floors 1-5 house the BACC’s “Art Hub,” a space dedicated to lifestyle stores, art boutiques, cafés and restaurants – all are rented out on the condition that the owner is also an artist.
Opening Hours: 10am – 9pm (closed Mondays)
Address: 939 Rama 1 Rd (BTS National Stadium)
