Everything you need to know about the new and enhanced Covid-19 preparedness features at Iconsiam, Siam Paragon, Siam Center, and Siam Discovery for their upcoming reopening.
If you’re suffering from mall withdrawal – aren’t we all – then mark Sunday May 17th on your calendar, as that’s the proposed date for shopping malls and other large retail outlets in Bangkok to reopen. As Covid-19 lockdown measures are gradually eased (provided there’s no new surge in infections) the city will begin inching that much closer to pre-coronavirus normalcy. In anticipation of the upcoming re-opening date, global retail destinations Iconsiam, Siam Paragon, Siam Center, and Siam Discovery have spent much of the temporary closure time putting in place amazing new and enhanced hygiene and safety measures.
“Preventive and hygienic measures which strictly comply with The Ministry of Public Health’s guidelines, have been our key priorities,” remarked Naratipe Ruttapradit, the senior executive vice president, operations, at Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., the operator and joint venture partner for all four malls. “We have practically and effectively incorporated innovative technologies in our practices, to ensure public safety is achieved and boost maximum confidence among our business alliances, tenants, shoppers and employees.” With the ultimate goal of bringing back ‘Siam Smiles’, Siam Piwat will be introducing temperature scanning robots, UV-C disinfectant technology for advanced indoors and outdoor cleaning, as well as a complete ramp up of maximum health and safety precautions.
The measures begin with the mall personnel, who will receive daily health and temperature checks. Employees must also do in-and-out registration reports and are required to wear gloves, face masks and/or face shields, enter the properties through the designated sanitisation gate, and maintain personal hygiene at all time.
In addition to staff cleanliness, the property itself – including all common areas, and facilities such as seats on the shuttle bus and shuttle boats – will be kept clean top to bottom using high-tech ozone purifiers, UV-C sanitization, and disinfecting fogger technology. You can also breathe easy knowing that the air-coil Coll & Fin units have been coated with disinfection enzyme to prevent possible infection, and that the air-conditioning systems are ozone-cleansed. Add to that over 300 hand sanitizer units provided throughout the properties, and it’s safe to say you’ll be safe.
Shoppers themselves will be required to download mobile application, and then use a specified QR Code or other online form for entrance and exit registration (OneSiam and Iconsiam applications also facilitate plan-ahead shopping). There will also be an occupancy limit imposed, while social distancing will be maintained throughout – from the restrooms, to the escalators, to the seating at restaurants – with plenty of signage to tell shoppers just how much distance they need to observe. Finally, wherever possible cashless and E-payment transactions are encouraged, and the elderly and disabled visitors will have access to reserved parking and priority checkout payment (the latter also available to customers with small quantity purchases).
