Entering Spring Summer 2020, Blackbarrett’s latest collection is all about vibrant colours, edgy prints, and cheeky pop references. The line dives deep into the roots of the brand, by finding inspiration from existing graphics and readapting them into a series of striking designs. A daring remix of bold techniques, premium fabrics, and functional seam work, classic pieces are given a contemporary twist, resulting in experimental and dynamic hybrids that are especially tailored to the fast-paced and dynamic lifestyle of today’s modern urbanite.
Brave, uninhibited, and characterised by impressionable graphic blocking and line angulation techniques, highlights of the collection include a series of motivational statements, along with the signature three-dimensional line graphics iconic to the brand. Among a series of animal prints is the rat — a referential nod to the Year of the Rat in the lunar calendar. Here’s what to look forward to from Blackbarrett SS2020.
This season, Blackbarrett takes to Scorpions — especially created using the brand’s signature 3D mesh technique, combined with various print patterns. These are joined by the Recycled Dino, which draws from origami art. Expressed through a range of eye-catching pop colours, the endearing animal designs are finally joined by Love Rats, where the brand has developed its own mesh rat as an ode to Chinese New Year.
Having always revolved around being minimal and modern, designs from Blackbarrett 2020 combine technical nylon with soft sweatshirting. The result? A series of timeless designs that highlight the contrast between fabric and colour through a range of combos, going from black and neon green, to smoke melange and traditional camouflage.
Military Stripes and Logos
Always a classic, military insignia makes an appearance in this season of Blackbarrett, which offers a fresh take on the classic sport and sartorial striping. For this capsule line, the brand has taken on military patterns as a key source of inspiration for its reinvented Spring Summer logo.
Of course, a key aspect of Blackbarrett is its flair for fun, edgy graphics and an effortless streetstyle-meets-sophistication vibe. For Spring Summer 2020, the Alien mascot makes an appearance, based off of the vintage UFO/alien graphics, with the addition of flying saucer emblems and a polaroid frame. Very, very retro.
Never compromising on its careful attention to detail and functionality, those with a keen eye will notice the way designs in this line continue the brand’s approach of practicality meets style, blending ergonomic seams and piping techniques with an exciting selection of designs. A series of motivational statements also dominate throughout the line, including the likes of ‘Computer Said No’ printed onto the items as a cheeky jab towards the unpredictability of modern technology. Other statement graphics include ‘Gang of Skulls’ and ‘Deconstructed Football’, all of which are attention grabbing, while also alluding to various interpretations.
