Just a blink of an eye after the Maison’s deliverance of the AW2021 Accessories Collection, Bvlgari’s icon, Serpenti, is reborn through the eyes of designer Mary Katrantzou with new-found vigour and optimism – shedding its skin and metamorphosing into a symbol of connected, transformative nature of snakes gliding through a riot of flying butterflies.
Mary Katrantzou, dubbed as “The Queen of Print” by press, is the latest designer enlisted by the Roman jeweller to liberally create an exclusive capsule collection that resonates with the fashion designer’s renowned creations of exuberance and maximalism.
The London-based Greek designer infuses her poetic and on-top-of-the-world style of great ecstasy into the new-born serpent through Haute Couture craftsmanship, vibrant nuances and playful jewellery.
The three recently added styles presented within the new chapter – Mary Katrantzou x Bvlgari – of the famed “Serpenti Through the Eyes of” saga are consisted of the Serpenti Metamorphosis bag, the Serpenti Metamorphosis Handle bag and the Serpenti Metamorphosis minaudiere – mesmerising yet invigorating.
The Serpenti Metamorphosis Bag
With over 40 hours of craftsmanship in Paris required for the butterfly-patterned embroidery as well as the manufacture in Florence, this piece is above and beyond a calibre of craft. The Serpenti Metamorphosis Bag comes in White Agate, Crystal Rose and Emerald Green for the smaller size, and Black in the larger size – all in very limited quantities.
The Serpenti Metamorphosis Handle Bag
The Serpenti Metamorphosis Handle Bag sees an ultra-soft, utterly smooth quilted Nappa body with a never-seen-before glimmering metal top handle – truly Bvlgari’s style. The statement piece is incredibly versatile: it can be morphed into an on-the-go crossbody bag or, remove the metal handle, attach a graceful golden chain strap and you’re ready to hit the show. Added to the eye-catching versatility of the bag, it also comes in a striking series of high-spirited colours, namely Ivory Opal, Crystal Rose, Aegean Topaz, Carmine Jasper and the classic Black.
The Serpenti Metamorphosis Minaudiere
Inspired by the iconic Bulgari Serpenti watch, the final style introduced is the Serpenti Metamorphosis minaudière – a Bvlgari’s first to be translated into a minaudière. The hexagonal-shaped scales and transfixing drop-shaped eyes epitomise the rare beauty of the legendary snake head. The piece’s wearability is defined by two different styles – a small size and a medium size. The small-sized object comes in flashing light gold or gold with long or short double chain strap for a casual-looking, cross-body look, as well as to be worn on the wrist. And another one with the medium size is apt for hand carrying in one’s palm, it also comes in black, white, multi-coloured palettes or crystal rose.
The exquisite collection also sees the extensive wonder of nature’s metamorphosis through Mary Katrantzou’s eyes in the form of textiles. Ranging from light cashmere to silk shelleys, the butterfly and the snake motif join forces to leave one’s mesmerisation in a mystery of awe. Plus, the campaign is as well photographed by a French fashion photographer, Hugo Comte, and modelled by a Russian philanthropist and beauty icon Natalia Vodianova – who’s also a mother, a wife and an entrepreneur – wearing Haute Couture jumpsuits exclusively made by Mary Katrantzou for this unprecedented, especial occasion.
