For Fall 2022, Dior unveiled its much-awaited ready-to-wear collection with a striking fashion show at Ewha Womans University — marking the maison’s first show in the Republic of Korea. Here are some highlights from the new collection.
As we’ve learned to somewhat expect from Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s Fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection was here to make a statement. Marking the maison’s first show in the Republic of Korea, Maria Grazia Chiuri draws from Seoul’s dynamic creative scene to form a unique dialogue — one that brings together Dior’s long-standing legacy, and the ever-evolving styles within the contemporary world.
The collection itself was presented in Ewha Womans University, upon a runway designed to resemble a giant skatepark. Giving audiences a bit of everything, looks in the lineup ranged from sports to couture, balancing between the subtle and the tastefully audacious. Much like Dior’s identity, it’s edgy, modern, yet unquestionably sophisticated — a nod to strong themes of self-confidence and freedom, underpinned by an emphasis on commitment, community, and sharing.
The collection seamlessly marries stylistic elements is a lineup that ranges from pleated skirts to black and white kilts, 3D-embroidered knitwear, and a captivating video game-like pixelated zodiac. Evening gowns draw from emblematic silhouettes such as the Juno, giving them new life through daring asymmetrical cuts. We were particularly taken by the a reimagination of Dior’s iconic Bar jacket, as well as the collections’ various nods to harmonious juxtaposition.
Alongside men’s coats and ultrashort skirts, we see biker shorts paired with white blouses and black ties. Contrasting materials and technicalities are boldly brought together for a result that’s contemporary, urban, and refined. Expect an unabashed play on forms, while asymmetrical-hemmed skirts and creative use of chiffon give the collection a sense of empowering femininity.
