In the wake of days and even weeks of social distancing to stem the spread of Covid-19, it is not always easy to find ideas for activities to pass the time. Fortunately, the internet has many suggestions as to how to while away hours of quarantine, including some from major players in fashion. Here’s a roundup of what is on offer.
Olivier Rousteing’s choreographies
Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing has been very active on social networks since the beginning of the lockdown, much to the delight of his followers. Among other things, the French designer is sharing material from Balmain’s archives and fashion sketches to color, as well as doling out weekly challenges to his followers to keep up their creativity during lockdown. But the initiative we like the most is the collection of choreographies posted on TikTok, in which he wears his own designs. A pure delight.
Kaia Gerber’s book club
American top model Kaia Gerber has launched her own online book club to help people who feel isolated to connect with the outside world via social networks. The principle of the club is quite simple: the young woman announces a title, and the following week, she organizes a real-time exchange on Instagram — either solo or accompanied by a guest — to discuss the work in question. The first book on Ms. Gerber’s list is “Normal People” by Sally Rooney.
Challenges presented by fashion icons
Fashion players and icons, including Billy Porter, Simon Porte Jacquemus and Jennifer Lopez, are increasingly issuing challenges to their followers to stimulate their creativity and help them to get more out of this period of social distancing. Porter has notably called on his fans to recreate the outfit that he wore for the 2019 Met Gala, while Porte Jacquemus asked his following to create a face from materials they could find in their homes. In both cases, internet users responded enthusiastically with surprising results.
