Gucci’s way of celebrating the upcoming Chinese New Year is definitely one of the more fun collections we’ve seen this year. Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele welcomes the year of the ox with a dedicated collection comprised of a number of special items that feature “Doraemon”, the famous blue Japanese manga and anime character – a friendly and gadget-loving cat-robot.
The Doraemon x Gucci collaboration also marks the manga character’s 50th anniversary. The conspicuous cat-type robot of Japanese manga star quality was sent back in time from the 22nd century by Sewashi (Nobita’s great-great-grandson) to help a young boy, Nobita Nobi, who Sewashi helps by improving his life. The friendly Doraemon possesses a pocket from which he pulls out secret gadgets from a future department store. See some of the items from the Gucci x Doraemon collection below.
Gucci reveals Doraemon on ready-to-wear clothes, shoes and bags. In this special collection for men and women, you’ll see Doraemon in his classic blue colour over the GG motif on a different number of products and accessories. You’ll also see him playfully dressed up as an ox and with horns. These two figures are featured in different poses over a GG motif, either in a repeat design, or singly, to create two new patterns for the Gucci.
Gucci also recently announced the arrival of its a series of Gucci Pins, the ephemeral stores inspired by the pins seen on interactive digital maps, this time dedicated to the Doraemon x Gucci collection. The initiative, which features an exclusive unique “pin” marking the destination on Google Maps, showcases the creativity and talent of Alessandro Michele and debuts now at ICONSIAM, Bangkok.
