Since Alessandro Michele joined Gucci as the creative director in January 2015, every collection he has touched has blossomed like the gardens he draws inspiration from. The worlds he creates are an amalgamation of cultural influences – from the magical garden of Ninfa in Rome to 17th- and 18th-century chinoiserie. Michele’s taste is eccentric and hardly what one would describe as conventional.
While other major fashion houses look to the Fall/Winter season as an opportunity to downplay colours and create more subdued and neutral collections, Michele rockets forth with zealous enthusiasm towards vibrant embroideries of flowers and butterflies.
His fashion show, which combines both male and female looks for the first time, feels like you were dropped headfirst in a magical wonderland with a touch of ’70s psychedelic glamour. All in all, we’re still fans.
