“A very simple, very pure momentum. Romanticism but without any flourishes. Emotions but without any frills. A softness. An outline, punctured with imposing jewellery” — Virginie Viard, on Chanel Fall/Winter 2020.
At Paris Fashion Week, Chanel designer Virginie Viard wowed audiences by heralding a new era of Chanel — one that steps away from extravagant backdrops and Lagerfeld’s traditional tweeds, to opt for a line of understated, mostly black and white ensembles, dominated by slashed jodhpurs, folded down calf-length musketeer boots and billowing side-buttoned leather trousers.
While the designs nod to the roots of the Paris fashion house founded by the horse-loving Gabrielle Chanel, what really caught our eye were the accessories. Chanel Fall/Winter 2020 is characterised by a softness — one dramatically punctured with imposing jewellery that, within themselves, make loud statements of glamour.
Modeled by the likes of Gigi Hadid, Rianne Van Rompaey, and Vittoria Ceretti, the accessories are unabashedly flamboyant, drawing from classic costume jewellery design for a result that is all about lavish pearls, embellished crosses, and bracelets accentuated by the iconic Chanel logo.
With crucifixes dangling between garments, heavy gold chains, and strings upon strings of pearls piled over the bodice, the maison’s fall/winter 2020 runway is definitely one to eye from an accessories-perspective. See below the best jewellery spotted on Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2020 runway.
