There are a few reasons that make Pimalai Resort & Spa one of the best beach destinations this season.
First, the location. Unlike Samui where the air travel monopoly makes the fare unreasonably high and Phuket which has started to gain its popularity momentum among the Thais thanks to the overwhelmingly hit series I Told Sunset about You, Krabi remains a quieter spot with a number of luxury resorts and relatively cheap air fare. Second, thanks to the long absence of tourists that had been bombarding its islands as an aftermath of 2000’s film The Beach, the devastated nature and marine lives have now been restored to its almost pristine condition.
Located to the lesser-known Koh Lanta (compared to Phi Phi, that is), the villas of Pimalai Resort & Spa sprawl beneath rainforest canopies, each and everyone of them overlooking the beach. The calls of wild macaques still echo through the dense mangroves just a stone’s throw away from the shore shoals where tropical fish reside amongst the coral reefs.
The Rooms, Design & Amenities
There are 121 rooms at Pimalai, but you’d never really feel the presence of other guests as every room is given its own private surroundings, with the Hillside Ocean Pool Villas commanding vistas of the stunning scenery straight from your own private pool. As Koh Lanta’s first Thai five-star resort, Pimalai Resort & Spa has redefined luxury hospitality on Andaman Island since it officially launched almost two decades ago in 2001. The rooms are vast and comfy, with the pool villas having traditional Thai accents in its design while the interior feels modern and sophisticated on the inside.
Pleasure & Leisure
At Pimalai, it’s all about enjoying the sea or enjoying activities by the sea. The resort itself is packed with activities you can immerse yourself in: workout sessions, yoga and Thai boxing with experienced trainers. The award-winning spa is tucked inside the green forests with treatments and scents designed to give both your body and soul a time of total relaxation. The food is top-of-the-class — from the freshly-caught grills to a selection of international dishes, there’s not much left to desire. Coupled with the panoramic view of the sea and the horizon wherever you choose to take your meal: in-room dining, Rak Talay or Seven Seas.
Out & About in the Andaman Sea
It would be a waste to visit Lanta unless you take the opportunity to check out Krabi’s most loved snorkeling spots: Koh Rok and Koh Haa — which can be organised by the resort. Those familiar with Krabi know all too well many of its famed snorkeling spots had been suffering from the tsunami in 2004, coral bleaching and excessive tourism. We’d be delighted to let you know that after months of quiet solitude, the underwater lives of Krabi have now been revived. For the first time in many years, you could swim with fishes while the sight of a little clown fish is a little treat from our recent visit!
