It’s been a some time since the lockdown has eased, and we’re adapting to a life defined as “new normal.” If there’s some legacies from the lockdown period that we expect to be carried on into this redefined, post-pandemic way of life, fine-dining delivery is definitely one of those. And of all the delicacies we enjoyed while practicing social-distancing, the set meals from Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok is definitely one of the best.
Launched earlier in May, Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok has crafted four unique set meals to fulfill the appetite of all discerning palates. Each set menu is cooked to order and available as a takeaway or for home delivery. The four sets are titled From the Land, From the Sea, Levantine and Iftar, the latter referencing none other than the meal eaten by Muslims after sunset during this Ramadan month.
I received From the Land and Levantine for my dinner, both of which are packed tightly and neatly so not even the slightest trace of spills can be seen. The set is comprised of a perfectly proportioned side dishes, a main dish, sweets and the aromatic and refreshing Rosemary and Honey Lemonade. I started with the homemade bread of the day with truffle chicken and liver pâté while taking a few bites at the parmesan and cheese. The salted creaminess and the aroma of truffles wake up my appetite for the main: duck leg confit with plum sauce, garlic and rosemary roasted potatoes, which I proudly declare my favourite of all offerings from these two sets. The delicately salted duck, with crispy skin and rich, tender meat that fell softly off the bone upon the touch of the knife, is perfectly balanced by the sweet and sour plum sauce. The garlic and rosemary roasted potatoes make for a nice accompanying munch to the main. Six macaroons may be too big as a dessert for one, but keeping some for later days to cure your random sugar cravings can be a good idea.
The Levantine set is comprised of 5 dishes aside of the mint lemonade, and it’s perfect for those looking for a way to relieve their travel craving. A Mediterranean air filled the room upon opening the boxes, and I started to nibble here and there between the aromatic fig and walnut tabbouleh and hummus, before enjoying the chicken gyros as my fulfilling main. Although it’s not a lavish, full-blown fine-dining delight, I think the set is a definition of at-home fine-dining and can be enjoyed even over Netflix or movie. And there’s nothing more refreshing than this whole new experience of indulging in hotel food within the comfort of your couch.
The delivery set meals from Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok costs from THB800-2,400. Free delivery in Bangkok within 10 km of the hotel with payments via bank transfer.
