Whichever camp you may belong to, tending towards the traditional or wanting only modern mooncakes, you must admit, these creative full mooncakes will make you full and filled with wonder.
The Belgium brand presents its cocoa-heavy collection of chocolate mooncakes, showcasing a range of flavours and great textures. Gourmet chocolate mooncake shells hold fillings that include aromatic Matcha and sweet white chocolate; savoury roasted black sesame seeds and milk chocolate; and a mix of Speculoos filling with dark chocolate complemented by Belgian cookie.
Stout lovers, listen up. The black beauty packs a surprise with each bite, containing Guinness stout-infused chocolate ganache concealed in a white chocolate shell. The combination of white coffee and chocolate flavours in the Guinness Snowskin Mooncakes complements the bold yet smooth and malty taste that is characteristic of the iconic black beer.
The famed homegrown bakery may have introduced eight different mooncake collections for your selection — from the limited-edition, now out-of-stock Royal Collection, to the Splendour, which gives you eight durian snowskins — the one that caught our attention was the (ahem) Prestige Collection, featuring liqueur-infused white chocolate truffle ganache snowskins. Every morsel is like a shot that scores, capturing the boozy nuances of apple vodka, butterscotch Baileys, coconut liqueur, and latte Kahlua.
The Fullerton Hotel
As The Fullerton Building — which houses The Fullerton Hotel Singapore — celebrates its big 9-0 this year, the hotel pays tribute to its home as Mile Zero, the point from which all of Singapore was measured in road distances. Therefore, a fun Milo Dinosaur (Get it? “Mile-O”) snowskin mooncake has been created to commemorate the anniversary. It’s also a great way for many to celebrate their favourite local drink, so slurp — we mean — bite into this chocolate-y treat comprising a smooth milk lotus paste and crunchy pops of Milo.
Colourful? Check! Crazy combinations? Check! Janice Wong has done it again. This year’s mooncake creation by the dessert doyenne is a new design, hand-painted no less and is snowskin casted in chocolate. Here’s a list of some quirky flavours to try: Bakwa Salted Lotus Paste, Yuzu Candied Orange Lotus Paste and Jasmine Matcha.
Mooncakes are technically cakes, right? Venchi sure think so. The Italian gourmet chocolate manufacture has drawn inspiration from its famous Cremino Cake recipe, repackaging it into a series of chocolate mooncake truffles. But hey, these pint-sized cakes sport a soft “lunar core” of chocolate mousse surrounded by layers of hazelnut “paste” mixed with milk, white and dark Venezuelan chocolate, so they’re technically mooncakes, right?
