January Beauty Favourites: All the makeup we love this month

The year’s shaping up to be a good one, beauty-wise.  A five-in-one makeup pen, a sheer glow stick, and a palette that promises to give your face an ambient glow — these are only a glimpse of the smarter-than-ever beauty products coming your way in 2019. Here’s a list of what we’re obsessed with this month.

Memo Paris Moroccan Leather
Memo Paris Moroccan Leather

We’re not sure exactly when Morocco started blowing up on all our feeds, but one thing’s for sure, this North African country has quickly become a top destination to visit. Brands — whether fashion, beauty, or design — have also quickly jumped on the bandwagon, confirming  that Morocco truly is having a moment.

Joining the pack is luxury fragrance house Memo Paris. Its Moroccan Leather Eau De Parfum takes inspiration from the blue city of Chefchaoun. The scent features leather accord, iris butter and vetiver fraction oil at its heart, bringing to mind the orange trees, the musky, spice-scented air and the aged leather goods from the tanneries.

Chanel Beauty Baume Essentiel
Chanel Beauty Baume Essentiel

Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2019 beauty collection draws inspiration from the theme of light play, and how this intersects with colour and texture. We see this most with Baume Essentiel, a silky gel glow stick that easily glides onto skin, giving it a soothing freshness and a natural, rosy glow.

It’s the perfect pick-me-up for skin. Pat on cheekbones for a dewy effect; on cheeks for a sheer wash of colour; use it to define your eyebrow arch or dab on your eyelids for a shiny finish.

Hourglass Cosmetics Lighting Edit — Unlocked
Hourglass Cosmetics Lighting Edit — Unlocked

Cruelty-free beauty has never looked better. Six shades of powder, bronzer, blush and metallic strobe powder make up the Ambient Lighting Edit – Unlocked palette, and all of them are infused with  pure Photoluminscent Technology to capture, diffuse and soften surrounding light so skin appears lit from within.

Two of the lighting powders, in particular, give skin a flawless, photogenic finish. This palette is all you need to sculpt your face: Just strobe, highlight, contour and apply blush accordingly.

Hera Sensual Tint

Liquid lipsticks are still very much in fashion — just look at Hera’s Sensual Tint. Bolder and better than before, the lippie now comes in a lightweight finish. Despite the richer micro pigments and intense colour payoff, the texture remains comfortable, thanks to an adhesive jelly wax that coats the lips evenly.

What we love best, however, is the cupid tip applicator. The side tip delivers a gradient-like finish, while the fuller end gives a bolder, fuller appearance.

Clarins 4-Colour All-In-One Pen
Clarins 4-Colour All-In-One Pen

Resembling the multi-ink pen we grew up, the Clarins all-in-one pen is like a portable makeup palette. Each pen boasts three eyeshadow shades and one lip liner shade for you to define your eyebrows, eyes and lips. Multiple clicks allow you to build on your look.

Infused with sunflower, jojoba and black acacia, the formula is soothing and gentle on skin. The pen is available in two shades, with one offering louder colours of blue marine and forest green.
