Hong Kong’s best-known director, Wong began his career in 1988 with As Tears Go By. He rose to prominence in the 1990s with films such as Chungking Express and Happy Together. His most celebrated work, In the Mood for Love, starring Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung, won him worldwide acclaim. Wong was named Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997 for Happy Together. After a five-year self-imposed hiatus, the auteur is set to direct a film about the murder of Maurizio Gucci, grandson of company founder Guccio Gucci.
