MOHAMAD HIDAYAH ISMAGREBU DATAU
Born into an entrepreneur family who founded Gobel Group and Pogu Group, Mohamad Hidayah Ismagrebu Datau learned the meaning of persistence from his parents. In 2007, he came up with a plan to turn around catering company Gobel Dharma Sarana Karya (GDSK).
“The firm was in critical condition, but my uncle Rachmat Gobel rejected my first plan,” says Datau, who earned a Hospitality Business Management degree from Washington State University (Swiss Center) in Switzerland. “Eventually, after several attempts, he said yes. It was his way of teaching me how to be persistent and not to give up easily.”
GDSK went on to win the contract to cater the Asian Games this year. “I have learned that I’m a determined person,” Datau says. “When I decided to pitch for the Asian Games, my uncle didn’t agree. It was challenging, as we had a very short preparation time. But I kept going, and the project went well.”
