UMW Toyota Motor has announced the arrival of the Lexus RX300 Special Edition. The seventh and latest variant available from Lexus Malaysia, the RX300 Special Edition shares the same specifications and equipment of the RX300 Luxury variant, only with additional accessories.
Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine (8AR-FTS), which produces 235 ps with 350 Nm of torque and a 6-speed Super Electronically Controlled Transaxle (6 ECT) standard automatic transmission with all-wheel drive transmission, the RX300 Special Edition is in fact identical to the Luxury variant under the hood. Besides that, it is priced at RM434,000 excluding insurance, which is RM10,000 more than the RX300 Luxury variant. So with all that said, are the additional accessories worth the additional money? Here are 6 reasons why it definitely is.
1. Underbody Panel
We’ve all been there. You’re driving down a less than smooth road, and as you hear the noise caused by stones and other small objects hitting the underside of your car, your heart wrenches with it. The RX300 Special Edition comes with an additional underbody panel which provides protection from all of that. Aside from that, the panel is also complemented by body mouldings on the side, not only enhancing the aesthetics of the car but also adding to the car’s elegance.
2. Side Steps
The next additional accessories provided with the RX300 Special Edition are the new one-piece side steps integrated on the lower side mouldings of the car. Located on either side of the RX300 Special Edition, this small addition provides huge practicality as it enables easier access for small children and the elderly.
3. Custom-Designed Visors
It’s raining cats and dogs, you’ve just arrived at a mall and it just so happens the ticket machine is outdoors with no shade. You know the rest. Installed on the tops of the windows of the RX300 Special Edition are custom-designed visors which help prevent rainwater from entering the cabin should the glass be slightly wound down. Another small touch that brings huge benefits.
4. Step Guard
The RX300 is not a small car. And should one have to load and unload heavy objects in it, there’s always a risk of damaging the rear bumper, especially so if you’re not exactly the tallest person around. A step guard is installed near the lower edge of the rear door opening, covering almost the full width of the opening, it is bound to offer protection to the rear bumper.
5. Welcome Door Lamp
A Welcome Door Lamp comes on whenever the doors are open, with a lamp illuminating the area near the door so that puddles of water or potholes can be seen and avoided. Besides that, the projection of the Lexus logo on the ground simply oozes class.
6. Touch ‘n Go and DVR
The RX300 Special Edition also comes with a Touch ‘n Go reader/transmitter and a Digital Video Recorder (DVR). Proving to be more and more of a necessity on the road, the DVR provides optimal visual evidence in the event of accidents, and with the RX300 Special Edition, third-party accessories are unnecessary, as one is already installed securely behind the rear-view mirror. Meanwhile, the Touch ‘n Go device provides a neater and more convenient solution for toll payments, as it can be installed inside the cabin.
