What comes to mind when you hear the words Haute Couture? Something ultra-luxurious, runway show-worthy, but NOT wearable? Are we right?
Did you know? Parisian women in the 19th century wore Haute Couture as daily wear. How fancy right? Ready-to-wear was something unheard of during that time so Haute Couture came out necessity. Everyone had unique, tailor-made everyday clothing.
Haute Couture is the art of dressmaking on a luxurious and grandiose scale. They are all made-to-measure and done by a number of people, bare hands. In France, a design house can only identify itself as an Haute Couture label if it fulfills these requirements set by the French Ministry of Industri and the Fédération Française de la Couture:
- A designer must create made-to-measure clothing for private clients and personal fittings
- They must have a full-time workshop in Paris that employs no fewer than twenty staff
- The Maison must presents two collections in a year, in January and July, consisting of daytime and evening wear.
With a very selected number of designers meeting the standard, here are the 5 best Couturiers and their collections this July, the fall/winter 2018/2019 collection, that we think we can actually wear for big festive events or intimate functions.
1. VALENTINO
2. CHRISTIAN DIOR
3. CHANEL
4. GIVENCHY
5. FENDI
