Hian Tjen is easily one of the most recognized fashion designers in Indonesia. For the past 10 years, the designer has created a distinctive niche in the market with his uncompromising expression of creativity. Marking a decade of his exquisite couture journey, a couture fashion show entitled“PERFECT10N” was held on 28 August in Raffles Hotel Jakarta. He showcased new methods, techniques, and color compositions in the exclusive fashion show.
A burning curiosity and fascination of the traditional Amish community is the inspiration of his new collection. It is an homage, a love letter to The Amish.
Combining embroidery, quilting, beadings, printing, lace, and many more, the collection also features hand illustrations that were transformed into fabrics. Design elements and symbols like exotic animals, lush plantation, rich agriculture, and vegetation are aplenty.
Hian Tjen made use of different materials namely tulle, wool, Lyon lace, and traditional ethnic motifs from Europe. He also experimented with new shapes and cuts—from shoulders, sleeves, and hems.
A total of 50 looks, each with their own characteristic and level of intricacy were showcased on the show. The color palette comprised of classic and earthy tones—from off-white, cream, grey to olive green.
This couture collection is proof of Hian Tjen’s brilliant mind at work.
