If the Shoe Fits
It appears that Jaeger-LeCoultre has found the perfect fit with Parisian shoe couturier Christian Louboutin. In honour of the 85th anniversary of its iconic Reverso Collection, the watchmaker created the Atelier Reverso, a bespoke service that allows customers to customise his or her Classic Reverso watches. Among a selection of dial and strap designs are those designed personally by Louboutin, who injected his dose of glamour and signature touch of red to the classically designed timepieces.
A partnership between Richard Mille and Airbus Corporate Jets has yielded the RM 50-02 ACJ Tourbillon Split Seconds Chronograph, a wonderful ode to the aviation industry. Retailing at more than one million Swiss francs and the result of two years of research and development, the watch features a combination of high-tech materials such as carbon nano fibre, Alusic, NTPT carbon, titanium aluminide and aluminium lithium lital. Its design bears immediate resemblance to the jets, thanks to the shape of the case and the dial, which takes after the curved rectangular plane window. The watch is fitted with a new generation of Richard Mille’s split-seconds tourbillon mechanism, which reduces energy consumption by half. This is made possible because of new titanium components and the elimination of the inertial jumping in the chronograph seconds hand during starting and stopping.
Roger Dubuis has declared 2016 as the year of its feminine Velvet Collection. Among the five new designs that made their debut, the most captivating is the Black Velvet. The elegant watch has a case and dial made of carbon, which makes it only a 10th of the weight of another similar sized Velvet timepiece offered in gold. This is also the first watch in the world to feature a gem-set carbon case, the result of an unprecedented technique that has since been patented by the watchmaker. The icing on this glamorous cake is the excellent choice of gemstones — 66 rare Paraìba tourmalines frame the dial in a glorious and unique shade of blue. Keeping in line with the brand’s DNA, the watch is powered by the RD821 calibre with “Côtes de Genève” decoration and Poinçon de Genève finishes.
The sporty and casually elegant Overseas Collection takes the spotlight this year with a redesigned collection composed of five new models. Defined by their easily interchangeable straps, antimagnetic properties and lacquered dials, these watches are the quintessential traveller’s timepiece. Perfect for ladies is the Overseas Small Model, offered in a 37-mm pink gold or steel case and framed by 84 round-cut diamonds amounting to more than 1ct. Displaying the hours, minutes and small seconds at nine o’clock, the watch is powered by the new calibre 5300 self-winding movement.
